Halloween Special: What to do when you get pumped in a selection process

It's that time of the year that all Hollywood lovers are waiting for, that night when we can pretend to live in an American cliché until dawn. If you like bad horror movies, take advantage of any excuse to dress up or just want to have a few laughs because you don't care about Halloween, don't miss this special article from Zemsania!

This year we wanted to dedicate our Halloween special to those situations that cause us real terror but that, even so, we all have to face sometime in our lives. That dreaded moment when they send us an email and tell us that, unfortunately, they have rejected our application for that job we were so interested in. As we don't want you to be carried away by the demons at that moment, At Zemsania we have created an infographic with the steps you should follow when you are given pumpkins in a selection process.... Happy Halloween!

What to do when you get a bad reputation in a selection process

How can we recover after being given pumpkins? Maybe some people just need to lie on the couch watching Bridget Jones while eating chocolate, but in most cases it is always better to opt for a slightly more effective alternative. When we are rejected in a selection process we tend to get discouraged, but we should think about what we can do better instead of dwelling on what we may have done wrong. To give you a few ideas, in the Zemsania Group we've put together this infographic on some tips on how to bounce back when you've been dealt a bad hand at a potential job:

  • Analyze the reasons why you may have been turned down. Above all, you must not lose confidence in yourself. You must be positive and think that the reasons why the company has not counted on you do not have to be negative: Maybe your profile was overqualified for the position or you simply did not know how to express your qualities or suitability for the position in the right way.
  • Send a thank you email to the company. Even though a company has rejected your application, it does not mean that they will not consider you for other future positions within the company. Therefore, it is very important to show the company that you would like to work there in the future through an email where you can thank the person who has interviewed you for the time he/she has invested in getting to know you and presenting your application.
  • Think about how to improve your personal brand and social networks.. Your personal brand is your best letter of introduction, and therefore you must take care of it with great care. Think that what social networks say about you (especially Linkedin) is the first thing a company will see, so keep your profile updated and add everything that you think may be useful for them to choose you in a selection process.
  • State your objectives. When we talk about looking for a job, it is not enough to apply to everything that comes our way. According to experts, it is necessary to find your target audience (as companies do to sell their products) to send them your applications. It is not a matter of sending your CV to all the offers you see, but of taking your time to select those offers that match your profile and your objectives. If you select well the companies that interest you and take care of the message you send them, it is much more likely that you will be successful.
  • Talk to your professional colleagues and ask them for advice.. If you tell them that you are trying to improve your professional career, maybe they know of a company that is looking for a person with your profile or recommend you some kind of course that will help you to improve aspects of your training. In addition, you can let them see your CV and motivation letter. This way, you will be able to see if the type of job you are looking for matches the message you convey through your application.
